Ways to Pray at Work

Many of us will spend the majority of our waking hours behind a desk, having only one prayer--the one that we prayed in the morning--to keep us throughout the day. Discover how you can blend the sacred practice of prayer into your workday. The workday doesn't start when you walk into the office, it starts when you wake up. Start by thanking God for the job you have and pray Colossian 3:23 "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people." Glance at the sign or logo of your organization. Thank God for his provision to you and your family. Ask God to bless all the individuals who are a part of this enterprise. Pray that you would be a good steward over your time on the computer and not abuse it by excessively surfing the net.

Pray the ancient Hebrew blessing for them: "The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance on you and grant you his peace." Pause a moment and pray for them and for all the leadership team. Ask that they will have wisdom and courage to guide the right course. Pray for their families and their lives outside work as well. Pray to be focused on the message that is being delivered, that you will ask the necessary and appropriate questions and make sensible comments. Pray to have an open-heart and a teachable spirit so that you may receive well and inevitably apply what your manager shares with you in the review. Take a stroll around your facility, inside or out, and ask God to bless the products or services your business delivers. Pray for the people who benefit from your operation and ask God to expand the territory you and your colleagues influence. Thank God for the support team who empties the trash and cleans the floors and bathrooms in your work space.
